Coaching Philosphy

I possess a firm belief that any swimming programme should be athlete centred and coach driven. It should provide the opportunity for swimmers to pursue their goals to whatever level they aspire and are capable of achieving. I believe everyone should have the opportunity to enjoy swimming as part of a lifelong, healthy lifestyle, in an appropriate environment, regardless of age, gender, race, religion, sexual orientation or disability.

I have a holistic approach to coaching and strive for excellence at every level and believe that swimming should be a "good experience" no matter what level of participation.

The retention of age group swimmers through to senior level is essential to provide a solid base for club development and success. Success, I believe, can best be achieved through a sound and structured teaching/development programme, which clearly identifies and signposts entry and exit routes to appropriate swimmer pathways. This structure should be based on the ASA LTAD model and scientific evidence, and encompass the National Plan for Teaching Swimming. The structure should aim toachieve optimal, movement literacy, skill development, training, competition and recovery throughout an athlete's career, particularly in relation to the important growth and development years of young people. It should include appropriate goal setting strategies and be supported by sound sports science back-up and ancillary support from outside experts (when appropriate).

I am totally committed to Continuing Professional Development (CPD) and have attended numerous conferences, seminars, courses & clinics in my quest to update and improve my knowledge and stay ahead of current developments within the aquatic environment.
